Still hoping to become president, Anies: I will not run for the DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election

FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Anies Baswedan is back on the candidate market for governor of DKI Jakarta. His name is at the top of the standings along with other potential figures.

However, Presidential Candidate number 1 has confirmed that he will not run in the gubernatorial election in DKI Jakarta for the 2025-2030 period.

Anies emphasized this after being repeatedly asked about the possibility of him running in the DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election.

“No, no (run in the gubernatorial election),” said Anies in Padang, quoted on Saturday (30/3/2024).

For Anies, the current presidential election upheaval is more important than discussing the regional elections. He views this as merely diverting the issue from the presidential election.

“The discussion about the regional elections is an attempt to shift the conversation about the presidential election without realizing it into a regional election issue,” he stressed.

The Gadjah Mada University alumnus also said that currently he is still discussing the presidential election.

Even the AMIN National Team is still trying to uncover fraud in the presidential election.

“I will continue to concentrate on this presidential election and later we will see the results, from the results we will determine the steps,” he said.

Previously, Anies’ name was floating around to run in the 2024 gubernatorial election contestation.

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) said it was possible that their party would nominate Anies again.

“Regarding whether Mr. Anies will run again as Governor of Jakarta or not. What is clear is that Mr. Anies is an asset for the people of Jakarta, an asset for the people,” said Chairman of the DPW PKS DKI Jakarta Khoirudin, at a press conference at the NasDem Tower, Central Jakarta, last week.

As is known, the presidential election dispute is currently ongoing in the Constitutional Court. Candidate pair number 1 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar wants the election to be repeated without including Gibran Rakabuming Raka because his selection as vice presidential candidate was considered problematic from the start.
