still beaten by Liverpool in the final, here is a curious paradox in the recent record of the Blues!

Chelsea probably needed this FA Cup more than Liverpool. Anxious to win a domestic trophy this season in addition to the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup, the Blues have again come up against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. The latter became the first coach (according to the site Squawka) to win all four major trophies in Reds history.

As for Chelsea, a very curious paradox is emerging in its record: it has won all its international finals since 2019. Winner of the Europa League in 2019, the Champions League last year as well as the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup, he only lost the said Supercup on penalties in 2019 (2-2, 5-4) against… Liverpool!

If the international prize list recently is considerable for the Blues, it is the flat encephalogram on a domestic scale despite many disputed finals. Chelsea have just lost their third FA Cup final in three years. Worst: Chelsea lost their 10th final of the last 12 at Wembley since 2012 (Community Shields included).

A shame because during the first decade of Roman Abramovich, the club of Thomas Tuchel left only crumbs to his opponents and picked up 6 Domestic Cups out of 7 finals. Chelsea are no longer able to do so at the national level but have a recent international record of a nature to make some people envious in Europe. The opposite observation would probably have seemed less bizarre…
