STI screening
Published on September 2, 2024 – Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
Free screening without a prescription, carried out at the request of a patient, was until now reserved for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). As of September 1, 2024, free screening is extended to several sexually transmitted infections, for those under 26.
A decree of July 5, 2024 indicates that screening in a medical biology laboratory, without a prescription, for 4 sexually transmitted infections (STIs) becomes free, without advance payment, for insured persons aged under 26 who request it.
The infections concerned are as follows:
- chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis) ;
- gonocoque (Neisseria gonorrhoeae) ;
- syphilis (Treponema pallidum);
- hepatitis B virus.
This measure applies from September 1, 2024.
Rappel
Over-the-counter HIV screening in a medical biology laboratory remains free, with no advance payment required, for all social security beneficiaries and their dependents, as well as beneficiaries of State Medical Aid.
Namely
When the patient is received in the laboratory, a questionnaire is given to him. This document allows the medical biologist to direct the patient towards the most relevant screenings and the most appropriate self-sampling methods, “in view of his sexual practices and in accordance with current scientific recommendations”.
