Steven Gerrard signs lucrative contract with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia

Steven Gerrard is ready for a move to Saudi Arabia.

The Englishman will be the new coach in Al-Ettifaq, the club confirms.

In October, he was fired as coach of Premier League club Aston Villa.

Since the Liverpool icon was sacked from Villa last autumn, he has been out of work and is currently a free agent. According to the journalist Romain Molina Gerrard has been in contact with Al-Ettifaq for some time. Now he will be in Saudi Arabia to sign a lucrative contract with the Saudi Pro League club. The local media company Koora Break published on Tuesday a tweet which Al-Ettifaq themselves linked to on the club’s website, where Gerrard is seen walking around the Dahran shopping centre. So far, it is unclear how much the contract is worth.

He has previously been linked with Leicester, who recently left the Premier League, but now the 43-year-old has decided on a move east.

Gerrard has previously coached the Scottish big club Rangers. As a player, he made over 500 matches for Liverpool between the years 1998 and 2015 and is seen as one of the club’s truly great icons.
