“We are massive rivals for many years and he is someone who despite being a rival I really admire him because he is an iconic figure in football.”

Steven Gerrard admitted that he had spoken several times with Sir Alex over the phone to get tips about the managerial world.

“I tell you a little secret: I have spoken with him several times. Since I retired (as a player), we pushed aside the rivalry and he gave me the opportunity over the phone to say a few things, some questions about management at Rangers,” he continued.

“He was fantastic in the chat. One day, I want to have the opportunity to sit together and have a coffee. He already agreed and that’s a fantastic thing from him because he doesn’t have to give his time to me, especially as a rival.”

“But it really shows what kind of person he is. He’s not just the iconic manager we all know so far,” said the legendary Liverpool midfielder.
