Liputan6.com, Jakarta – President of the United States (US) Joe Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to several figures, one of which was given to the co-founder of Apple, the late Steve Jobs.
Steve Jobs posthumous award was announced by the US White House on Friday local time. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest US award that can be awarded to a civilian.
Award it is awarded to “individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, value, or security of the United States of America, world peace, or other important societal, public or private endeavors.”
Citing the official page White HouseSaturday (2/7/2022), the US government described Steve Jobs as co-founder, chief executive, chair of Apple, and CEO of Pixar and has a leadership role at the Walt Disney Company.
“His vision, imagination, and creativity resulted in inventions that have and continue to change the way the world communicates, and transforms the computer, music, film, and wireless industries,” the White House wrote.
In addition to Jobs, two figures who have died and received posthumous (after death) awards from Joe Biden are the late John McCain and the late Richard Trumka.
Meanwhile, several other figures who also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom include Simone Biles, Gabrielle Giffords, Fred Gray, Khizr Khan, Diane Nash, Alan Simpson, and actor Denzel Washington.
Jobs founded Apple in April 1976 and since then, the technology company has become one of the largest companies in the world. He died on October 5, 2011.
