KRC Genk has a clear policy regarding current contracts. And Mark McKenzie will be no different.
Mark McKenzie is one of the key players of KRC Genk, although he did not exactly have his best afternoon of the season against Club Brugge last weekend.
The American defender of the Limburgers still has one year left on his contract and then he knows what will happen. Nobody spends the last year of their contract with Genk: you either leave or extend your contract.
He has been playing for KRC Genk for 3.5 years, but there is interest from the Bundesliga. “Right now my full focus is on KRC Genk and the matches we still have left in these play-offs. Until the last minute I will give everything for this club,” said Het Nieuwsblad.
No MLS
During the season he doesn’t want to worry about what needs to happen next season. There are therefore no conversations going on. He is certain of one thing: returning to the United States and playing in the MLS is not an option.
“If I were to leave Genk, I would definitely want to stay in Europe. It was my dream to play here as a child, that hasn’t changed. I didn’t take the step to Europe for nothing. I may return to the States in a few years, but for now I’m enjoying my time in Europe. I want to get the most out of it.”
