Jakarta (26/10) — Deputy Chair of Commission IX DPR RI from the PKS faction, Kurniasih Mufidayati hopes that the spread of monkey pox or monkeypox cases will not spread more. Currently in DKI Jakarta there are 13 confirmed cases of monkey pox.
Since this case broke out in the world and has not yet entered Indonesia, Kurniasih has reminded the government to prepare itself to create procedures for handling monkey pox. The hope is not to be shocked like when facing Covid-19.
When the first case of monkey pox was confirmed in Indonesia, Kurniasih also again asked for special mitigation and supervision for the groups most at risk.
“Before the case came in and when the first case was confirmed, I had repeatedly reminded people about management and mitigation as well as monitoring the groups most at risk. “Now the number continues to increase, so someone needs to evaluate whether management and mitigation have been carried out?” Kurniasih asked.
Kurniasih said that Indonesia has experience in handling Covid-19. So that handling of infectious diseases can be done in a more programmed manner.
“Trace close contacts, isolate confirmed patients, carry out tests and start increasing vaccinations. In general, it is the same as the actions we took during Covid-19. We should have been much better prepared. “Plus additionally, closely monitor the most at-risk groups,” explained Kurniasih.
Citing a study from the New England Journal of Medicine on July 21, it revealed 528 confirmed infections between April 27 and June 24 2022, predominantly 98 percent of whom were gay or bisexual men, and 95 percent had contracted the disease through sexual activity.
WHO also issued a statement that men who have sex with men are the group most at risk of infection at this time.
