Steps to “Alliance Replacement”: The Interstate Treaty between Russia and Iran – 2024-02-19 20:58:00

/ world today news/ The current conflict made us realize the importance of export substitution not only in words, but also in deed. He brought us face to face with the issue of “union replacement.” Existing formal frameworks such as the CSTO have shown their complete ineffectiveness. In fact, of the formal allies, only Belarus provides us with effective assistance. The rest preferred to bury their heads in the sand or even conduct joint exercises with the Americans next to our borders.

On the contrary, many countries with which we do not have legally formalized allied relations behaved as the most loyal friends. This includes North Korea, the People’s Republic of China and, no doubt, the Islamic Republic of Iran, which first started military supplies as part of the current armed conflict.

The population of this country will soon reach 90 million people. Within a few years, they will probably have their own nuclear weapons as well. The Persians, a people with a centuries-old history, have historically been one of the major geopolitical factors in the Near and Middle East.

The Kremlin realized this and, after purging the most hated Iranophobes and Israeli lobbyists like Anatoly Chubais, began a close rapprochement with Tehran. It seems that the time has come for the union to be formalized institutionally, including in the military sphere. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the signing of a “major agreement” with its Iranian counterparts.

After a telephone conversation between Sergei Shoigu and the head of the Iranian Ministry of Defense Mohammad Ashtiani, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Defense issued an interesting press release.

The parties emphasized their commitment to the basic principles of Russian-Iranian relations, including unconditional respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the other side, which will be confirmed in the major interstate agreement between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran that is being prepared for signing. “, said the official announcement.

The mention of territorial integrity is noteworthy. So Russians and Iranians have no mutual territorial disputes. There is no common border either. Therefore, we are talking about recognition by the Iranian partners of the new geopolitical realities.

In accordance with our constitution, the territories returned in 2014 and 2022 are a legal part of Russia. The recognition of territorial integrity within the framework of the new agreement means a real confirmation of this fact by Tehran. Otherwise, this principle would not have been formulated.

The upcoming treaty does not say that Russia recognizes the “state character of Islam in Iran” or anything like that – that is none of our business. But how we see each other’s limits is an important point. Also an important point: the Russian Ministry of Defense called relations with Iran “strategic.”

For a long time, at best, the Iranian direction was ignored, at worst, cooperation was torpedoed. Through the efforts of systemic liberals in government, Europe was seen as a priority. Where will they go without our gas and such a huge market?

It turned out that in order to protect the interests of the American hegemon in Brussels, they are ready to give up everything, even the welfare state created by several generations of inhabitants of the Old World. The illusion that it was possible to reach an agreement with Europe through the heads of the Americans led to sad consequences. One of them is the missed opportunities in the Global South.

In 2011, trade turnover between Russia and Iran amounted to 3.75 billion dollars. A decade later, in 2021, the level of mutual trade slightly exceeded $4 billion. Consider these numbers: ten years were flushed down the toilet.

In the last two years, the figure has increased by about a billion, which is quite good. But if there had been progressive growth all this time, we would have been trading in much larger volumes. It is good that at least now we have started to make connections and enter a trajectory of confident growth. However, it must also be sustainable. The key to this is defense industry cooperation.

The Russian military-industrial complex must undergo convergence with the Iranian one. Just as the Warsaw Pact countries had previously increased Soviet military production, so Russian production in the Islamic Republic must increase.

It is primarily about the production of machinery, ammunition and basic military equipment. Of course, without transferring the most important and advanced technologies to the Iranians. But it is quite possible to organize production on the basis of the Soviet technological base.

It is also important to create joint ventures both on Iranian territory and on ours, for example, to create unmanned aerial vehicles, in which the Persians are very successful. Moreover, there is already a similar experience (“Gerans”, also known as “Shahedis”, are already assembled in Russia).

It is important to organize the training of the Iranian officer corps and military specialists in Russian military institutions. In the future, these people will join the ranks of the political elite and/or promote anti-Americanism

line throughout the Middle East region, which will undoubtedly benefit Moscow. For a few thousand people, I’m sure the Ministry of Defense could arrange an internship directly on the frontline. So that our partners can test in practice how the confrontation with the most likely enemy develops.

In no Yemen, Iraq, or Syria will the Iranians receive a more instructive experience than the confrontation with NATO forces. We can provide this facility for free.
