Steps against breast cancer

The town of El Cotillo, the ‘Race and march for hope against breast cancer’ for the benefit of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) of the island. Some 535 runners and marchers participated in this charity event whose objective is to raise funds to fight against breast cancer.

The athletes, who have started from El Muellito del Cotillo, were divided into three categories: 1 kilometer of walk, a children’s category of 1 kilometer for children from 7 to 11 years old, and a 3-kilometer race in absolute category for runners over 12 years of age. . This type of activity seeks to promote the practice of healthy living, while spending a pleasant time with families and friends practicing sports.

At the end of the test, the winners in the absolute male category were: Jokin Bellido, Juan José García and Francisco José Pascual, while in the female section Eva María Alonso, Ainhoa ​​Barbuzano and Sara Caballero took the podium. In addition, in the male minor category, the winners were Javier Pascual, C ristiano Tarquini and Cornelis Prujin, while in the female category the winners corresponded to Claudia Chacón, Carmen Flacón and Noelia Pérez, while the Tortuga prize went to Esther Rodríguez.

The initiative has had the main sponsorship of the City Council of La Oliva and the collaboration of the Island Council of Fuerteventura, the Island Athletics Federation of Fuerteventura, among other entities and commercial companies, to whom the AECC thanked their permanent involvement in the activities that it organizes .

Important work

The Spanish Association Against Cancer in Fuerteventura serves almost 300 users a year, including patients and families, and has 950 active members on the island, whose economic contribution is vital. Of these funds, 80% are dedicated to maintaining the activity and services of the Association; while the other 20% is destined to research through the program of aid for oncology research projects of the Scientific Foundation.

The AECC is the social and private entity that allocates the most funds to cancer research: more than 79 million euros in 401 projects, in which more than 1,000 researchers participate.

Recently, the AECC inaugurated new offices in Puerto del Rosario, which allows it not only to offer new services to users, but also to provide more personalized attention.
