England’s Stephen Gerrard, coach of the first Al-Ettifaq football team, confirmed, on Thursday, his intention to return from Riyadh with the points of Al-Hilal, his host, when they meet in the fourth round matches of the Saudi Roshen League, next Monday.
Gerrard said in a press conference after the “1-1” draw with Al-Khaleej in the third round of the competition: “I respect Al-Hilal, but history does not mean preference and performance will determine the outcome of the match. We will go to Riyadh in order to score points.”
The English coach noted that he deliberately excluded Faisal Al-Ghamdi, the team’s player, from facing the Gulf, in order to rest him and push him mainly against Al-Hilal.
He said, “The exclusion of Faisal Al-Ghamdi from the main list was a technical decision in order for him to undergo a rest, and we have distinguished substitute players, in addition to that I will rely on him in front of Al-Hilal.”
Regarding the course of the match against the Gulf, Gerrard said: “In the first half, we were not at the required level, and the Gulf succeeded in scoring the first goal.
