With 9 wins and 1 loss, Golden State is firmly in the lead in the NBA, which was not immediately expected from the champions of 2015, 2017 and 2018. But Curry is playing again at the incredibly high level with which he became MVP in 2015 and 2016.
Curry is the first this season to throw in 50 points and add 10 assists and 7 rebounds. Only Wilt Chamberlain and Rick Barry, both members of the Hall of Fame, have already recorded 50 points and 10 assists in club history.
Curry’s dominance was total. He ruled and divided and stood with his arms in the air constantly whipping up his fellow players and the audience. He scored the Warriors’ first 13 points and added 10 more in a row in the 3rd quarter.
The crowd thoroughly enjoyed themselves, shouting out loud, “MVP! MVP!” Fans held their breath for a moment when he appeared to have injured his shoulder in the first quarter, but a quick examination revealed nothing.
Curry continued lustily and for the 10th time played a 50-point match, at halftime he was at 24 points with 5 three-pointers. On his way to a 5th win in a row, he threw in all his 13 free throws.
In Curry’s shadow, Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins came to 16 and 13 points respectively. At the Hawks, Trae Young was the best with 28 points and 9 assists, but that could not avoid a 4th loss in a row and a 6th in 7 games.
