Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu are set to go head-to-head in the first-ever NBA vs. WNBA 3-Point Challenge at the upcoming All-Star Weekend. The competition, titled “Stephen vs. Sabrina,” will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis during State Farm All-Star Saturday Night.
The highly anticipated event will air on TNT following the STARRY 3-Point Contest and before the AT&T Slam Dunk. State Farm All-Star Saturday Night is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET, and fans can catch all the action by downloading the NBA App.
What makes this challenge even more exciting is that it goes beyond just a friendly competition between two talented athletes. As part of the event, Curry’s Eat.Learn.Play. nonprofit and Ionescu’s SI20 Foundation will receive a donation from the NBA and WNBA. Additionally, each shot made by Curry and Ionescu will trigger a donation from State Farm to the NBA Foundation, supporting economic empowerment in the Black community. The value of each shot is as follows: regular 3-pointers are worth $1,000, money balls are worth $2,000, and the “STARRY Range Ball,” a deep 3-pointer from 29 feet, 9 inches away, is worth $3,000.
The rules for “Stephen vs. Sabrina” will follow the standard STARRY 3-Point Contest rules. Curry will shoot from the NBA 3-point line using NBA basketballs, while Ionescu will shoot from the WNBA 3-point line using WNBA basketballs.
The challenge between Curry and Ionescu originated after Ionescu’s impressive performance in the final round of the STARRY WNBA 3-Point Contest at AT&T WNBA All-Star 2023. She recorded an outstanding score of 37 points out of a possible 40 points, setting a WNBA and NBA single-round event record and winning the contest for the first time. Inspired by her achievement, Curry raised the challenge during a mic’d up moment in Golden State’s game against the Sacramento Kings on TNT. Ionescu officially accepted the challenge on social media, setting the stage for this epic showdown.
Curry, a two-time NBA 3-Point Contest champion, holds the record for the most 3-pointers made in NBA history with an impressive 3,577 made during the regular season. On the other hand, Ionescu made waves in 2023 when she set a WNBA single-season record with 128 3-pointers.
Fans are eagerly awaiting this clash of shooting titans as Curry and Ionescu showcase their skills and compete for glory. The “Stephen vs. Sabrina” challenge promises to be a thrilling event that highlights the incredible talent and competitiveness of both the NBA and WNBA. So mark your calendars and get ready to witness history in the making at this year’s All-Star Weekend.
