Stephanie Wetekam Appointed as Head of Education at Hesse State Office for Agriculture (LLH)

East Hesse (pm/as) – Stephanie Wetekam will take over the management of the “Education” department at the Hesse State Office for Agriculture (LLH). In mid-December, LLH director Andreas Sandhäger welcomed the new colleague to the LLH headquarters in Kassel, where her headquarters will be from now on.

“With her practical focus and a large network in the agricultural and gardening industry, Ms. Wetekam brings valuable qualities to the position. “In this way, she will be able to realistically assess the requirements of the education sector and lead the department successfully,” says Andreas Sandhäger. The education department at LLH is responsible for training in green professions as well as further training at the four Hessian technical colleges for agricultural economics. The Hessian Garden Academy and the Dillenburg State Stud are also assigned to the department. The state stud, like the Eichhof Agricultural Center, is a training center for inter-company training. In addition, the Rauichholzhausen educational seminar and the Hesse Rural Academy will be the responsibility of the new department head in the future.

For the woman from Waldeck-Frankenberg, it is a return to a familiar place of work. After completing her agricultural training and studying agricultural sciences in Göttingen, she worked as a consultant for animal husbandry businesses at the LLH from 2005 to 2013. From 2007 to 2013 she was in charge of the “Animal Husbandry Advice” department. In her subsequent position as managing director of the Waldeck District Farmers’ Association (KBV), Wetekam already demonstrated her affinity for her current field of work. Together with the University of Marburg and the Office for Teacher Training as well as the “Farm as a Classroom” initiative, Wetekam modernized in 2018 together with her KBV colleagues Dr. Nina-Mareen Grenz and Matthias Eckel developed the concept for farm education. The aim was to train practical agricultural businesses in this area, but also to include them in teacher training. Effective collaborations emerged that advanced general and technical education. In addition, she lectured part-time in the area of agriculture at the Rhine-Main Chamber of Crafts for several years.

The new department management is looking forward to the work that lies ahead of them in the future: “The challenges in agriculture, horse farming and horticulture are constantly increasing. Against this background, the topic of “education” plays a very important role. It is very important to me to further develop and advance vocational training, but also secondary technical school and adult education offerings with the responsible colleagues.”
