The 2024 budget for the municipality of Stelle, which has now been unanimously approved by the local council, shows a loss of around three million euros. The good news: The community can plug the hole from last year’s reserves. At least for now. It was said that if the financial situation continued like this for another two or three years, the community would ultimately be at risk of insolvency because all reserves would then have been used up.
Savings were still being discussed until the vote. When the draft budget was presented for the first time in August, there was a 3.3 million euro hole in the figures. This quickly increased by another million euros, due to the increase in the district levy and additional burdens on daycare and management costs.
Because of this, the red pencil has already been set in the specialist committees. “As a result of our applications, the tree register, for which 560,000 euros were allocated, was deleted,” emphasized CDU parliamentary group leader Volkmar Persiel. In addition, 234,000 euros were cut from daycare subsidies and around 100,000 euros from interest expenses. Persiel: “We put a blocking note on other items, so that in the end we saved around 1.2 million euros.”
A further 152,000 euros were canceled at the meeting at the request of the CDU. “The budget assumes a district levy increase of four percentage points. But I am sure that it will only go up by three points,” said Persiel, who also sits on the district council, made it clear. “That’s why we can delete one point, i.e. 152,000 euros, from our budget.” This was also decided unanimously.
However, there was no majority for another CDU proposal that proposed canceling a loan authorization for the administration amounting to 2.7 million euros. The money will be used to renovate the Ashausen elementary school. However, implementation in 2024 is not foreseeable for the Christian Democrats, which is why the sum could also be deleted.
But treasurer Dagmar Ninnemann didn’t want to play along. “If the credit authorization remains, I will have quieter nights,” she said, giving a glimpse into her emotional world given the general financial situation and with a view to repaying further loans. The other parties saw this and outvoted the CDU.
