The automobile group Stellar has warned the United Kingdom of possible factory closures if the country does not renegotiate the trade agreement after the Brexit with the European Unionin a company letter addressed to the parliamentary committee.
Specifically, Stellantis assures that he has difficulties to meet local requirements due to rising raw materials and a lack of supply of batteries in the UK.
In this sense, Stellantis requests that the requirement imposed in the Brexit whereby, from 202445% of the parts of the parts of an electric car must come from the United Kingdom or European Union (EU) to avoid export duties of 10%.
The company employs more than 5,000 people in the UK and had committed to assembling electric vehicles in the country, such as midsize vans from Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat at its facilities in Ellesmere Port, in the North West England, and in Luton, outside of London.
“If the cost of manufacturing electric vehicles in the United Kingdom stops being competitive and becomes unsustainable, factories will be closed Stellantis assures in the letter addressed to the parliamentary company commission. “The UK must consider your agreements trade with Europe”, states the company.
