Stellantis, «the new Fiat Panda? It will be made in Serbia”: Prime Minister Vucic extinguishes his dream of producing the car in Mirafiori or Pomigliano

Stellantis will produce the electric Panda in Kragujevac, in the former Zastava plants acquired by Fiat in 2008. This was said by the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic, in joint statements to the press with the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Belgrade.

In addition to the production of the electric Panda, the Serbian head of state continued, “it could be the driver of new investments in the automotive sector, where there are enormous direct investments”.

The New Electric Panda is a B-segment crossover which will be presented on 11 July 2024 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the birth of the Fiat brand. Production of the old Panda will continue in Pomigliano and will continue until 2026. During the summer Stellantis has registered the Pandina trademark, which could be the new name of the car produced in Pomigliano.

In Piedmont the governor Alberto Cirio had put pressure on the company for the new model (the first low-cost electric car from the Stellantis group) could land in Mirafioriwhere today the 500e are produced, around 80 thousand, and Maserati, 8 thousand pieces in 2023, to relaunch the site up to 200 thousand cars assembled per year.

Stellantis would have produced a new electric car model at the Kragujevac plant in Serbia from 2024. This new model will be the electric Panda. Production is expected to begin in April with the aim of 120-150 thousand cars per year. In all likelihood Kragujevac will not be the only plant to produce the Panda. Factories in Morocco and Brazil are also expected to come into action.

There is also concern in Pomigliano where Panda (future Pandina) is produced. «Stellantis: communicate in the next meetings the model that will replace the post-Panda in Pomigliano». So he said in a statement the national secretary of Fim Cisl Ferdinando Uliano. «On November 23 – he says – Stellantis management in a union meeting in Mirafiori confirmed the production of Panda in the current versions until 2026. Prompted by our questions regarding the aftermath, the Stellantis management officially reiterated to us that another model will be assigned to the Campania plant without mentioning which type of model. If the news arriving from Serbia is confirmed by Stellantis, it becomes urgent and essential to know which car model will replace the current Panda.”
