Stellantis’ Sale of Maserati Factory: The Decline and Relocation of Production

diChristian Benna

On the inauguration day in 2013 Sergio Marchionne spoke of a new era for the Trident. But today in Turin less than 8 thousand Maserati cars are produced per year and production has been transferred to Mirafiori

Stellantis says goodbye to the Maserati factory wanted by Sergio Marchionne. The Ipi group of the Segre family has published online on Immobiliare.it the announcement of the sale of the former Bertone production complex in Grugliasco, acquired in 2009 by FCA to start the production of Maserati models.

It was the era of the Turin Polo del Lusso project and the relaunch of the Trident with great fanfare. On the day of the inauguration in 2013 Sergio Marchionne spoke of a new era for Maserati: «These days are crucial to reposition the brand and start a phase of unprecedented expansion». His words.

In 2021 the Maserati cars, whose production in Turin has fallen to a trickle, just 8 thousand cars according to Fim in 2023 (in 2017 there were 55 thousand), were transferred to Mirafiori. The Maserati supply chain is in deep crisis. Lear, suppliers of seats to the Trident, has announced 300 redundancies, and in a few weeks the social safety net will end. From Monday the workers will be on standby and then strikes and protests will start.

The Grugliasco Agap factory, already proposed in the last two years by Stellantis to Chinese manufacturers as well as to the Italians of Dr Motors, without however resulting in anything, will be emptied by the end of the year, ready to be sold to the highest bidder. The price of the Corso Allamano area divided into four lots which extends for 205 thousand m2, of which 100 thousand for productive use, is on request.

«The plant – explains Ipi in the announcement, is in good maintenance conditions following recent and significant renovations, and currently hosts part of the Carrozzeria Maserati production line, the decommissioning of which will be completed by the end of 2023».
