The carmaker Stellantis reported a net profit of 5.9 billion euros (126.6 billion CZK) in the first six months of this year after last year’s loss of 813 million euros caused by a pandemic.

The group was formed in January by the merger of the Italian-American carmaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and the French competitor PSA. In today’s communication, the group also pointed out that it managed to make faster progress in savings in the first half of the year. It also had a record margin, although it had to stop production due to a shortage of semiconductors. In total, it produced 700,000 fewer vehicles.
Revenues increased by 46 percent to 75 billion euros. Car sales rose 44 percent to 3.2 million.
“We are very pleased with the speed with which our new team has become a single company, such as Stellantis,” said CFO Richard Palmer. The merger brought together the brands of the French group Peugeot, Citroën, Opel and DS with the brands Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Ram.

The carmaker’s savings in the first half of the year amounted to 1.3 billion euros. This was mainly due to the sharing of investments in new technologies and platforms. According to Palmer, the savings were higher than the carmaker originally expected. In total, it expects long-term savings to reach five billion euros, of which 80 percent by 2024.
Palmer also pointed out that the carmaker does not expect improvements in chip supplies until the end of this year. For the whole year, the total loss of production could reach about 1.4 million cars. The company is also concerned about the sharp rise in raw material prices, the effects of which are likely to be felt in the second half of the year.

In July, Stellantis announced that it would invest more than € 30 billion in vehicle electrification by 2025. According to the media, it wants to launch 11 new battery electric cars and ten electric hybrid cars in the next 24 months.
