Stellantis Halts Production in Russia and Considers Departure: What’s Next for Peugeot, Citroen, and Opel?

Until 2022, the Stellantis concern plant (which includes Peugeot, Citroen, Opel, Fiat and a number of other brands) produced Peugeot 408 and Citroen C4 Sedan sedans, commercial vehicles, and also carried out contract assembly of two Mitsubishi models, Outlander and Pajero Sport. But in April 2022, it stopped working, and the head of the Stellantis concern, Carlos Tavares, announced a possible departure from Russia. There have been no official statements on this matter.

Journalists visited the plant and spotted a Citroen C5 Aircross, Peugeot 4008 and 5008, as well as a rather exotic Peugeot 408X. Previously, these models were not produced in Russia, but three of them were imported. The Peugeot 4008 is the Chinese version of the familiar Peugeot 3008, and the Peugeot 5008 and Citroen C5 Aircross are its enlarged versions, which have been supplied to Russia since 2018–2019 without much success. Despite the crossover form factor, the models were strictly front-wheel drive, which, coupled with the high price, made them unattractive to Russians.
