Full battery. After overcoming the pandemic and the further hitch of the global shortage of semiconductors, the still newborn Stellantis closes the first half of its life relying on good resources to push the electrification plan. In fact, 11 electric models and 10 plug-in hybrids are expected to be launched in the next two years. More in depth with regard to the individual brands, the strategy of the group led by Carlos Tavares plans to launch only new electric cars from 2024 for DS, from 2026 for Lancia (and electrified from 2024) and, on some markets in Europe, North America and China, all electric also for Alfa Romeo from 2027. Pending the industrial plan that the Portuguese manager will present at the end of the year. Another important novelty concerns the confirmation that from 2023 Fiat will return to segment B, the historical heart of its business, from which it has been absent since production of the Punto ended in 2018.

STELLANTIS FIRST HALF 2021: FINANCIAL DATA

From a strictly financial point of view, there are the obvious strong increases in turnover (75.3 billion, + 46% on the first half of 2020) and profits (5.9 billion against a loss of 813 million) related to the comparison with the year the Covid lockdown; the negative industrial cash flow of -1.16 billion derives from the semiconductor crisis (without it, vehicles cannot be built and therefore sold); however, industrial liquidity is solid, amounting to € 51.4 billion, owing to a total debt of € 31.3 billion. Operating income is expected to grow by 10% by the end of 2021, given the absence of further lockdowns or continued chip shortages. Furthermore, the synergies deriving from the merger between FCA and PSA resulted in cash benefits of approximately € 1.3 billion. Consolidated deliveries of vehicles (passenger cars and light commercial vehicles) amounted to 3.08 million units. On the morning of the release of the balance sheet data, Tuesday 3 August, the Stellantis share was the best on the Milan Stock Exchange, even exceeding a 4.5% rise.

STELLANTIS, BRANDS: JEEP WRANGLER HYBRID OK

The North American market continues to give great satisfaction. After just three months of commercial life, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is the best-selling plug-in hybrid car in the United States. After all, the Jeep brand is always going strong all over the world. Compass and Renegade lead plug-in sales in Italy, Japan and Korea Renegade and Wrangler are market leaders, as is the entire brand in South America. Moving on to Opel, the Corsa is the best-selling car in Germany and (Vauxhall-branded) the UK. Peugeot ranks second in market share in Europe, 7.1%; moreover, in more than 40 countries around the world it had the best share since 2015. Fiat leads the market in Italy, Turkey and Brazil, as well as South America in general (led by Toro and Strada). In the luxury sector, Maserati returned to profit (+29 million in adjusted operating income in the first half), particularly thanks to sales in China; after the renovations of Levante, Ghibli and Quattroporte, the first appointment will be in September 2021 with the deliveries of the MC20 supercar; more importantly, the strategic launch of the Grecale compact SUV expected in the last quarter of this year.

ELECTRIFIED STELLANTIS: NEXT LAUNCHES

Recalling the recent agreement for the construction of a gigafactory in the Termoli factory, this is the timetable for electrified launches, brand by brand, for the next two years: Alfa Romeo, a plug-in hybrid in 2022 that cannot fail to be the Suv Tonale; Citroën, three electric one plug-in; a plug-in for DS (in the next semester) and Dodge; two electric commercial vehicles from Fiat Professional; one plug-in and one electric for Jeep; two electric ones for Maserati; one electric and two plug-ins for Opel; two electric and three plug-in for Peugeot.
