VINTERBRO (Dagbladet): – Tonight we will film in the Nordby tunnel. It is a very long tunnel, so long that you can finish everything you have to do before you get out again.
Dagbladet is at work with director Harald Zwart (56) and his wife, producer Veslemøy Zwart (54). Hollywood has once again been replaced by the hometown of Fredrikstad – and once again it is the baby, “Lange Flate Ballær”, who eats most of the time for the couple.
Back to the roots
For Zwart has done everything from “Hamilton” to “One Night at McCool’s”. He has done “Agent Cody Banks”, “The Pink Panther 2” and “Karate Kid”, and has worked with stars such as Liv Tyler, Matt Dillon, Michael Douglas, Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith.
Still, he keeps coming back to his roots – to great applause from the locals not so far from the Swedish border.
In 2006 came the first film about the six men at the workshop EdGarasjen in Fredrikstad, who traveled on a boys’ trip to the World Cup in Germany without their ladies. Two years later, in 2008, the sequel came, while now, just over 13 years after that, comes the third film in Zwart’s project.
Celebrity daughter follows in her father’s footsteps
Daughter does car stunt
Back to start: Dagbladet is involved in the filming at Vinterbro in Akershus in Viken county, where between 50 and 60 people are working hard to make a scene in the 3850 meter long Nordby tunnel – which is blocked off all night for director Zwart and the film crew will get to do some spectacular stunt scenes by car – in true Hollywood style. At least almost.
But not only that: the main character this evening is none other than Stella Zwart (16), Harald and Veslemøy’s own daughter.
– Can we expect drama, Harald?
– Ha ha, it’s mostly humor, a bit in “Indiana Jones” country. That is, something that went well, but which may not have gone so well anyway. Fortunately, we have people with us who know what they are doing. I can not reveal too much about what is happening here, except that a 16-year-old girl is going to do “vomit sledding” inside the tunnel, Zwart tells Dagbladet in the minutes before the stunt begins.
– You’re referring to your daughter, Stella?
– Yes. It is not she who does the stunt itself, but we want it to look like she does it, says the experienced director with a laugh.
From trailer driver in Haugesund to film director in Hollywood
– Very happy
Stella has the role of Mie in «Lange Flate Ballær 3». But this is far from the first time she has appeared on the screen.
She made her first acting appearance ever in the first “Long Flat Baller” film – as a newborn. In the sequel, she was between two and three years old, while she now “apparently” does a car stunt as a 16-year-old in the third film.
– None of us thought it would be a third film, so she had probably turned it down. We could not cast anyone else either, since it was Stella who was in the first two films. We are very happy that she thinks it is as fun as us, says dad Zwart.
Will be behind camera
But Stella has not only been seen in her father’s own productions. Among other things, she has had the lead role in the NRK Super series “Puberty Fight”, which was on screen as late as 2020.
– Has she decided to become an actress now?
– No, she is very good and thinks it’s fun. But I think she would rather be behind the camera, says the director.
His wife Veslemøy, who has also worked as a producer on the first two “Long Flat Balls” films, believes that the daughter makes the Mie character with all her soul – even though it may not be an actress she really wants to be.
– Stella says she knows Mie. And then she’s Mie when she plays Mie. It’s nice to see that she has such ownership for that role. It was a while where she wondered if she wanted to become an actress, but now she sees so many things in film and television and is considering going another way.
– The calm of mother
The “Lange Flate Ballær” production has worked day and night in recent weeks to make all the necessary recordings, which will continue for several weeks. And the stunt Stella took part in was absolutely perfect, according to the Zwart couple.
Fortunately, everyone came from Friday’s stunt with their health intact as well.
– We got through it very well. Thanks to super professional Norwegian stunt drivers and a Danish stunt coordinator, who I worked with on “Hamilton” 20 years ago. And Graarud transport, they have been absolutely fantastic. It’s unbelievably fun when everything works as it has done so far, they think.
– Stella seemed quite calm along the way too?
– Yes, she’s calm for her mother, I think. No matter how much it burns on dass, she is completely measured and calm, says the Hollywood director.
Norwegian war drama beats «Star Wars»: – Absolutely raw!
– No big difference
“Lange Flate Ballær 2” got a lot of attention in the press, and experienced very good visitor numbers premiere weekend in 2008. However, visitor numbers in themselves are not the most important of all, says Harald Zwart’s right-hand man, his wife Veslemøy.
– The goal is probably to keep the DNA in this universe. How we can take the characters and stories further – what people identify with. And then good or bad visitor numbers come in the wake of it. The most important thing for us is to focus on what we are going to make and to get the best possible. This is everyday problems. Every day is a struggle, she says with a smile.
