Stella returns to Arena Verona after collapse, but it will be incomplete

(ANSA) – VERONA, 04 SEPTEMBER – The famous Christmas Star, which this year celebrates 40 years since it was designed, will return to Verona in Piazza Bra, but after its collapse in January 2023 it will not yet be able to do so in its original version, as it is a very complex work and the owner, namely the Fondazione Verona per l’Arena, is still working on the definitive reconditioning of the artifact damaged during the dismantling phases. Thus, taking into account that the reconditioning project of the structure has not yet been completed, in agreement with the municipal administration and the Superintendence of archaeology, fine arts and landscape, next November only the head of the historic archisculpture created in 1985 by the architect Rinaldo Olivieri will be placed. The tail will be created with a wide beam of light that will project from the head of the star towards the top of the Arena. “The Verona Administration is waiting for the technical tests and the project proposal from the Foundation to then complete the administrative process, while keeping in mind that, for the Administration, the safeguarding of public safety and the protection of the Amphitheatre are priorities” declared the deputy mayor and councillor for monumental buildings, Barbara Bissoli. As for the damage caused to the steps of the Arena by the collapse of the base during the dismantling of the star, restoration work will begin in the autumn, but the Municipality of Verona has reiterated that “the wound will remain visible”.
