Steinberg 2020/2021 was one of the leaders of the national team in the qualifying tournament of the European Championship, averaging 18 points in the game and winning 10 rebounds. At the club level, Steinberg became Turkey’s vice-champion with Galatasaray in Istanbul.
LBS annual awards are traditionally presented at a special event, however, in 2021 it is not possible due to the epidemiological situation, therefore the winners will be greeted individually. Representatives of the media covering basketball events, members of the LBS Coaches Commission and the Board traditionally participate in the selection of the players of the year, as well as take into account the results of the fan vote.
Steinberg was previously recognized as the best basketball player in Latvia in 2016 and 2017. Zane Teilāne, Anete Jēkabsone-Žogota, Kitty Laksa and Elīna Babkina have also won the award.
The annual awards in 3×3 basketball were presented by LBS on November 29 at “Arena Riga”, celebrating the winners of Olympic gold. Raimonds Feldmanis became the coach of the year, 3 x 3 basketball players of the year – Agnis Čavars, Edgars Krūmiņš, Kārlis Lasmanis and Nauris Miezis, but Krūmiņš earned the title of the example of the year.
Since 2012, LBS has been awarding the basketball of the year awards to honor the personalities who achieved excellent results during the season, made a significant contribution to the development of Latvian basketball and promoted Latvia’s international recognition.
