Things are slowly getting hot in the basic passage win2day ICE Hockey League. On the 42nd matchday they succeeded Steinbach Black Wings Linz an important 5:4 away win at HC TIWAG Innsbruck. The “Stahlstädter” ended a four-game losing streak and are currently in sixth place and therefore in a direct play-off position.
“After a phase like that, it’s good to get points again,” said Emilio Creamy after the game in the PULS 24 interview. The Austrian scored the decisive goal in the penalty shootout. Despite conceding three goals in the middle third, Linz was able to turn the game around in the final period.
Gaffal’s comeback
The best news of the evening came before the first face-off: Stefan Fork was back in the Black Wings line-up for the first time since September 24th. The striker was then Hit in the head area by a puck and even “no longer felt his own body,” as he revealed a few weeks later.
Despite a good start from the in-form Tyroleans, it was Linz that was able to celebrate on the ice for the first time. Green (24.) and Corey Mackin (25th) turned the game around within a minute to take a 3-2 home lead. Linz’s defense didn’t look good when they conceded both goals, head coach Philipp Lukas reacted quickly and took a time out.
The Black Wings then got back into the game better, but the next goal celebration was again on the Innsbruck side. Dario Winkler (35th) increased the score to 4:2 for the home team via a deflection. Thanks to a hit from Niklas Würschl (39.), however, Linz went into the second break only one goal behind.
Exciting finale
Linz came out of the locker room visibly motivated. Knott (41.) scored his 21st goal of the season to equalize 4:4. After overcoming being outnumbered, the Black Wings now pushed for the winning goal. However, the decision was only made in the penalty shootout. Creamy Linz secured the two important points.
