The Eredivisie will resume for Feyenoord with an away match against Sparta Rotterdam. Both clubs kick off at Het Kasteel on Sunday afternoon at half past three. Maurice Steijn sees Feyenoord as a favourite, but also knows that his team is having an excellent season and is difficult to beat during home games. In the run-up to the match, Steijn is full of praise for Feyenoord.
“I think all praise goes not only to Slot, but to the entire staff of Feyenoord,” Steijn says in conversation with ESPN. “It is very nice to see how Slot is doing there. It is of course not one man who ensures that things go very well. Of course they do that together. For example, they bring in new players together, who are then well integrated. Of course Slot is in charge of that and he is ultimately responsible, so he deserves all the credits.”
Feyenoord is hard to beat. The team from Rotterdam lost for the last time in the competition at PSV. ”How can Feyenoord be beaten? Yes, tricky. It’s a good whole and when you see how convincingly they win matches. Even how convincingly they played in the Arena, it will be a difficult match. We also have our weapons. We made it very difficult for everyone in the competition with that and we will try again on Sunday.”
Sparta Rotterdam last won at home against Feyenoord in 2017. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team subsequently became champion of the Netherlands that year. ”I think that Feyenoord would also sign for that if that happened on Sunday”, Steijn laughs.
