The editors received the following reply to the article “Why the national park will come” from January 31 in the Main-Post Gerolzhofen:
The forest expert Ralf Straußberger gives me hope that a national park Steigerwald will be realized in the foreseeable future in the state forest area. This would be a great gain for man and nature. On our doorstep, an attractive local recreation area in intact beech forest nature would invite people. Animals, plants and fungi specific to deciduous forests could flourish undisturbed.
A strong partner in the fight against climate change would stand by our side as a water and carbon store and create a cool microclimate. The UNESCO World Heritage cities of Würzburg and Bamberg could significantly increase their attractiveness with a national park and world heritage site in their midst. The Mainschleife would also benefit greatly from such a development. I am convinced that the people of the region would be just as proud of their national park as I have experienced when visiting German national parks. Let’s support those who are committed to a Steigerwald National Park – for us and our children.
