The Steigerwald Club Castell had invited to a hike on the “Culture Trail Theilheim – Eibelstadt – Lindelbach”. This hiking trail deliberately leads away from the much-visited villages on the Main, into the side valleys, where villages that have remained little pearls await the hiker. This is how this cultural path is described in the Spessart project.
13 hikers had gathered in Castell to drive to the starting point in Theilheim. From here we started in the direction of Eibelstadt to the Lützelgrund, crossed under the motorway and soon reached the town. On the way there were beautiful views of the Main Valley, Würzburg, the Marienberg Fortress and the Käppele. In Eibelstadt we didn’t go to the chocolate side of the market square, but stayed in the second row. Our path led along the city wall and further in the direction of Lindelbach, partly parallel to the “Lügensteineweg”. Passing the former Jewish cemetery we reached Lindelbach.
After a stop at the “Gasthaus zur Grüne Linde” we took the slightly shorter route back to Theilheim. This section leads to one of the abandoned quarries. They are inextricably linked to the Main Franconian cultural landscape. The hiker is informed about this at the former canteen of the quarry workers. The small building and the smithy were saved from demolition by committed citizens. The quarry displays a historical relic, a so-called derrick crane, which was used to move the large loads. We continued past the Lützelquelle on the autobahn back to Theilheim. In between we were able to pick some vitamins to strengthen ourselves with the wild cherries along the way. With up to 30°C it was very hot, and so we were happy about every shade that offered us.
