At “Goodbye Germany” Steff Jerkel wants to open a sports bar. But the project demands a lot from his business partner.

Mallorca – Moving to a foreign country, settling there and building a life and career sounds a lot easier on paper than it really is. Since 2006, “Goodbye Germany” has accompanied brave emigrants on their adventures on distant shores, not all of which always have a happy ending, and it also shows the life of Steff Jerkel (52), who has been made Mallorca by choice. The newest venture of the sympathetic Vox star has it all – especially for his business partner.

“Puts me under pressure like hell”: Steff Jerkel’s business partner Helena gives up everything for him

Today, Steff Jerkel is an indispensable part of “Goodbye Germany” and, together with his ex Peggy Jerofke (47), is one of the most popular faces in the documentary format. In November 2022, the former “Summer House of the Stars” participants announced their separation after 24 years of relationship – but their emigrant adventure in Mallorca is anything but over. Steff has a lot planned for the current season and seems to be making optimal use of his single existence in terms of his career.

Together with Helena, Steff Jerkel wants to open a sports bar on the Balearic island. For his business partner in particular, however, the opening involves many sacrifices, because she is selling her house and car as well as her pub for the project. Of course, Steff doesn’t take it lightly that she gives up so much for him. “That scares me,” explains Josephine’s father in a preview for the latest “Goodbye Germany” episode, “I also have to say that it puts me under pressure like hell.”

How much does emigration cost?

Some would never dare, others have long dreamed of traveling into the unknown. Even if emigrating sounds exciting – if you don’t want to return to Germany after a few months and have failed, you need a well-filled wallet. A family of four should bring at least 90,000 euros in start-up capital to the adopted country. The more ambitious the project, the larger the financial buffer should be. If you save, plan wisely and get detailed information about your destination before you leave, the new start on distant shores should be quite successful.

“Imagine, that goes wrong”: Steff Jerkel wants to open a sports bar at “Goodbye Germany”.

Owning a restaurant or bar on Mallorca, a booming tourist hotspot – that’s what many of the courageous emigrants at “Goodbye Germany” dream of. Some are successful, such as Marco (58) and Tamara Gülpen (30) with their “Despacito” bar, while others have to give up after a short time.

Helena is taking a big risk in her joint plans with Steff Jerkel – which he is clearly aware of. “She’s grown up, she knows what she’s doing,” explains Steff, but is also concerned: “Imagine that things go wrong here somehow and she loses everything, that would break my heart.”

The new episodes of “Goodbye Germany” (Mondays at 8:15 p.m. on Vox) will show whether Steff Jerkel and Helena will be successful with their sports bar. Meanwhile, his ex Peggy Jerofke talks about their relationship status on “Goodbye Germany”. Sources used: Instagram.com; RTL+/Goodbye Germany!
