Stefano Tacconi, former goalkeeper for Juventus and the Italian national team, went through moments of great glory and then a difficult path to rebirth. Icon of one of the most exciting periods of Serie A, Tacconi saw his life change radically on April 23, 2022, the day on which, shortly after participating in a charity event, he was struck by a brain aneurysm. A sudden and dramatic event, which led him to a coma and a long period of hospitalization and rehabilitation.
After months of fighting for his life, Tacconi found the strength to tell his experience in the book “The art of parrying. Finding the courage to face life’s challenges”, published by Rizzoli in 2024. With this work, the former footballer wanted to share his message of resilience and determination, underlining how “if I did it, anyone can do it”. Tacconi describes the book as a guide for anyone facing unexpected challenges, with the aim of instilling hope in those forced to start over.
During his long recovery journey, Tacconi was hospitalized at the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo, where he remained from 21 June to 28 October 2023. During this period he made extraordinary progress, driven by the affection of his loved ones, and in particular his son Andrea, who, that fateful day, was fundamental in helping him promptly.
Tacconi’s career represents the “first half” of his life: a successful goalkeeper who defended the goal of Juventus and the national team in what was considered “the most beautiful championship in the world”. The “second half” began on April 23, 2022, when he had to face the toughest challenge. “I thought I was immortal,” he confessed in an exclusive interview with *Verissimo*, “but there was something unexpected around the corner.”
Today Tacconi, with his book and his testimony, stands as an example of strength and courage, a man who, as on the pitch, did not give up in the face of an impossible challenge.
