Stefano D’Orazio, the funeral, the applause, the tears of Pooh- Corriere.it

The funeral procession that accompanied Stefano D’Orazio, the drummer of Pooh who passed away on Friday evening in Rome, left at 2.40 pm from the Capitol. Many fans and friends, while respecting the covid rules, rushed to greet the 72-year-old musician but above all there were them, Roby Facchinetti, Dodi Battaglia , Red Canzian e Riccardo Fogli, the Poohs. Tried and moved by the last farewell to his friend and historical companion of 50 years of music.
The coffin then arrived in Piazza del Popolo, where the funeral was held privately in the church of the Artists. In the square hundreds of fans had arrived from all over Italy with greeting placards, as they passed the coffin they applauded for a long time, they greeted singing the verses of some of the songs most famous of the band, such as “Thought” and also making many drumsticks resonate.

The Church of the Artists of Piazza del Popolo in Rome had hosted a few days ago the funeral of Gigi Proietti. And as in the case of the great actor, the city’s affection for its artists was not lacking even if the anti-covid rules did not allow for that huge crowd that, in other conditions, would certainly have existed. But “the people of the Pooh” were still in the square. To cry and sing even if beyond the barriers.

Stefano D’Orazio died on November 6 after some complications due to covid. And it is precisely the circumstances of his death in isolation that further saddened his friends and fellow musicians as Red Canzian told Corriere: I couldn’t be as close to him as he did to me when I was operated on my heart.
I have lost a part of myselfStefano was my strength, my smile, I will miss him all, said his wife Tiziana. Among the performing artists present at the ceremony also Lorella Cuccarini, Roberto Ciufoli and Fausto Brizzi.

Together with his partner Roby Facchinetti D’Orazio he composed “You will be reborn” in homage to the city, Bergamo, strongly affected by the first wave of the epidemic and which had become his adopted city.
