Stefano and Merel have already had to overcome quite a few bumps in the road for their early relationship, which started as a one-night stand that got out of hand. Their large age difference is a piece of cake compared to the abortion Merel had, the car accident and Stefano’s spinal cord injury.
Because they have been through so much intense together, Stefano says it feels as if they have known each other for much longer. He is certain: Stefano wants Merel by his side forever and so he first turns to Julian (Cas Verduyn) to ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage like a gentleman.
As befits a concerned father, Julian Stefano points out their age difference and the uncertain future prospects. Yet he gives the green light to his possible future son-in-law, so that Merel can make the decision himself. Something that Grandpa Henk (Johnny Kraaijkamp Jr.) does not understand. “Get married?! Have they gone completely crazy? How long has she known that guy?” he bellows when Julian later confides the news to him.
Janine also has her reservations about it, but Stefano happily drives to the local Lucardi to pick out a beautiful engagement ring. Then Stefano organizes a romantic outdoor setting. Spoiler alert: Merel says yes, but the doubt radiates from her face…
