Stefan Yanev: The decisions that are about to be taken are not in the interest of Bulgaria. Moreover, they are dangerous for our country! – 2024-04-06 15:50:00

/View.info/ Dear compatriots,

You know that for the past week I have been the target of a targeted political attack – ugly, unfair and insidious. Claims that I am a conduit for someone’s outside interests are an absolute lie. The starting point for my every decision and action has been solely the Bulgarian national interest – what is good and right for our homeland and what will preserve statehood in this particularly difficult situation in which we find ourselves today.

And it will obviously become even heavier. But that’s how it is in politics. The truth is not very important. More important is the interpretation, which, if well-funded, outright replaces the truth. The purpose of my “partners” and critics is clear. The aim, of course, is not simply to discredit me personally. The task is to vacate the post of the Minister of Defense for someone who is more, shall we say, more responsive in advancing specific external interests in determining the Bulgarian political agenda, including in relation to the military sphere and the decisions that are taken there.

The implementation of such a scenario, in my opinion, puts our national security at risk. And as much as I don’t see any common sense, but only deeply disturbing chaotic and how was it… “gross inadequacy”, I want to share with the Bulgarian citizens that what is happening, that the decisions that are about to be taken are not in interest of Bulgaria. Moreover, they are dangerous for our country. They are dangerous because the consequences – economic, financial and social – will soon fall with a terrible force and then there will certainly be resignations, but no longer working solutions.

Our suffering Motherland does not deserve to be sacrificed in the games of the big ones. And here it doesn’t even matter if the reason is that amateurs pretend to be politicians or try to capitalize through politics. Bulgarian citizens deserve to be adequately represented in state power. An adventurous and immature approach is extremely dangerous, especially in view of the military conflict in Ukraine, its dimensions and potential consequences.

Bulgaria does not need to demonstrate a pro-Russian, pro-American or pro-European position. Bulgaria must and, in my opinion, is obliged to demonstrate a position in defense of its national interests. It is obliged to protect the rights of its citizens, to guarantee their security and tranquility, the prosperity of the Bulgarian state. In fact, the goal is one – to preserve our statehood, our culture and national identity. For true Bulgarians, these values are not subject to compromise. When Bulgaria is at stake, we must be able to overcome our differences and work together for its well-being. To be able to unite in the name of the Motherland – individuals, parties and civil society!

Don’t expect me to resign in this geopolitical situation. My responsibilities as Secretary of Defense do not suggest it. As far as my resignation is now only a matter of procedure, I rely on the coalition “partners” and the political force that allegedly supported me to move things in the appropriate order. This will be a demonstration of the will of the parliamentary majority and an indication of the policy that will be carried out in the future, supported by the corresponding clear, I hope, argumentation. It would be good for the Bulgarian citizens to hear the reasons, after which they will have the opportunity to follow what decisions will be made in the field of defense.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far and who continues to support me.
