The coach of the Slovak national football team, Štefan Tarkovič, also nominated two newcomers for the next qualification cycle of the 2022 World Cup.
For the first time, goalkeeper František Plach from Piast Gliwice and defender Vernon De Marco from Slovan Bratislava will appear in the national team. Midfielder Juraj Kucka, who did not play due to an injury in the last league match, is also nominated.
“Compared to the European Championships, we have seven line-up changes for various reasons. Greif is missing from the goalkeeper post, we are in contact with him, he is already in full training, but we agreed to give him time to make his mark in the club. Hubočan and Greguš are injury, Hubočan has shoulder problems, so he is not there.
Greguš has an injured ankle, Dúbravka is an ankle after the operation and his treatment time is longer. Haraslín has not established himself in the preparation, he is solving the future, as well as Bénes, but I am counting on them for the future,“Tarkovich said at Monday ‘s press conference.
The nomination is missing the forward Michal Ďuriš, who decided to end his national team career. “I want to take this opportunity and I want to thank him for his exemplary representation. He has helped us many times, we are losing a quality player,” Tarkovich said.
