Stefan Schomerus, born in Kempten im Allgäu in 1978, is a filmmaker and creative with many years of experience in children’s media. From 1999 to 2001, after an internship, he worked as a “creative producer” at MTV Networks in London. From 2001 to 2006, he studied at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy and received his diploma in animation. In 2010 Stefan Schomerus graduated from the Academy for Children’s Media.
From 2007 to 2018 he worked as “Senior Producer Creative and Design” at the Viacom International Media Networks’ children’s channel Nickelodeon in Berlin, where he was responsible, among other things, for image spots, development and creative content. He has received numerous awards at the annual Promax Broadcast Design Awards and participated in international festivals.
Stefan Schomerus has been working as a freelance filmmaker and “creator of animated content” since 2018. For the first time in 2022, he directed five new Sandman episodes, wrote the scripts and was responsible for editing. His episode “Recycling Vehicle”, produced by Einhalb Medienproduktion on behalf of rbb, was awarded the Grimme Prize in 2023.
In 2023/2024, another eight Sandman frame stories and the short film “The Journey to the Dream Sandmill” were produced. Stefan Schomerus was once again responsible for the direction and scripts, as well as for the animation and camera work. The one and a half media production was again produced. Here, too, as with the thirteen frame stories, the editing was done by Nina Paysen from the rbb family editorial team.
