The defending champion is out and has to cope with the next setback. Third division team SG Dynamo Dresden lost in the third round of the Saxon State Football Cup at Chemnitzer FC 1:3 (1:1, 1:1) after extra time. The guests offer a disappointing performance over long stretches.

“The way we lost this game from a body language perspective is catastrophic. After the 1:2 we lost our structure. “Today we saw what is possible with will and mentality,” complained Dynamo captain Stefan Kutschke on MDR and at the same time praised the regional league team from Chemnitz. “Saxony Cup in front of 10,000 spectators in Chemnitz: If you then have to motivate players, I’m sorry. We didn’t really follow through in the duels.”

Aljaz Casar shot Dynamo Dresden into the lead after 20 minutes. But Chemnitz also equalized 1-1 in the first half through Niclas Erlbeck (31st). In extra time, Roman Eppendorfer (103′) and Luis Fischer (114′) ensured the hosts’ victory in front of 10,429 spectators in the stadium on Gellertstrasse.

“Incredible. My first competitive goal for the CFC – and then before the corner in a game like this against a third division team. This is what you live for as a footballer. Now it’s pure ecstasy,” said goal scorer Luis Fischer. And CFC coach Benjamin Duda emphasized: “I am incredibly proud. We didn’t need much luck or goalkeeping saves today. We played great pressing and continually posed problems for our opponents.” Chemnitz’s opponents for the round of 16 will be drawn on Tuesday (4 p.m.).

Shock moment at Dynamo Dresden

The collision between Dresden’s Tony Menzel and his teammate Casar caused a shocking moment, and he fell to the ground as a result. The goalscorer had to be replaced because of heavy bleeding and a suspected broken nose. Regular goalkeeper Tim Schreiber, Niklas Hauptmann and Vinko Sapina weren’t even in the squad. For Dynamo Dresden it is the second competitive defeat in a row after the 1:2 at Borussia Dortmund II in the 3rd league.

Thomas Stamm’s sobering conclusion: “We came out of the half-time break very well. But we should have been more efficient at this stage. We didn’t create enough clear chances. It wasn’t a good game for us at the back. We didn’t defend two set pieces well. Then it’s not enough against a regional league team.”
