Grid operator Stedin wants provinces to invest millions of euros in expanding the power grid in their region. In return, they would receive a share in the network operator.
Stedin makes this call in an urgent letter for the new coalitions to be formed in the provincial government.
Stedin could really use some extra financial room now that the power grid is busy. Companies and consumers want to accelerate the switch from gas or petrol to electricity. Large solar parks are also being constructed. The current electricity grid cannot handle these extra connections in all cases.
The national government has previously promised to invest 500 million euros and thus also become a shareholder. Stedin is currently owned by 42 municipalities.
