Steam to Stop Supporting Old Versions of Windows, Prompting Upgrade for 12 Million Users

This topic was written by Sultan Al-Qahtani – The Steam platform will stop supporting old versions of the Windows system completely, starting from the first of next January, and the company is scheduled to begin implementing its plans 10 days from now.

Previous reports indicated that Microsoft is planning to launch Windows 12 in the second half of next 2024, even though only 3 years have passed since Windows 11 was officially launched to users.

The Steam platform has begun to take actual steps in preparation for launching a new update for the Windows system, as the company announced its plans to stop supporting Windows 7 and 8, as well as 8.1.

Steam has confirmed that the percentage of devices running old versions of the Windows operating system does not exceed 1%, and although it is a small percentage, it represents a large number of Steam platform users, whose number reached 1.2 billion users in December 2023.

The number of users of the Steam platform with devices running old versions of the Windows system is expected to reach approximately 12 million users, so this category will soon have to upgrade to play their favorite games on the gaming platform.
