Valve is releasing a new update for the Steam Deck. This gives the handheld an option to create a performance profile per game. Those profiles allow users to set a frame rate limit and screen refresh rate for better battery life, among other things.
Users can the new performance profiles found in the Quick Access menu, under ‘Performance’ and ‘Advanced View’. When users enable the option on a game on the Steam Deck, an achievement profile is automatically created for that game. Then users can adjust the screen refresh rate and a frame rate limit. Those settings will then be loaded automatically when they start that game. It is also possible to disable the feature and the game will automatically roll back to the default frame rate and refresh rate settings.
The update also fixes some bugs. Users should also notice better performance when switching between online and offline modes. Valve also speaks of “improved home screen feature availability” when switching from offline to online mode. The full patch notes are on the steam website.
