February is a good month for Steam Deck.
Steam Deck users will soon be able to play a classic war of stars game when it releases later this month. There are some great games coming out this month. There are Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake, Helldivers IIplus some games that came out today like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League And Persona 3 Reloaded. However, if you’re more of a fan of retro games, you’ll keep an eye on it Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster.
This news is a bit surprising considering that the original is available on Steam and it is only listed as “Playable” and not “Verified” on the Steam Deck. However, the remaster was “verified” by Valve a few weeks before its release on February 28th. This means that the game is fully functional and works satisfactorily with the Steam Deck controls and display. How do we know this? Because Valve tested it.
As for the game itself, Star Wars: Dark Forces is a first-person shooter by LucasArts, released in 1995 for MS-DOS and Macintosh and in 1996 for PS1. It takes place in the expanded universe, before the events of the original war of stars film (at least in part), it debuted on Metacritic with a 60 rating, which isn’t a good score, but is a 90 rating war of stars So many games have played it and many remember it fondly. This remaster takes the original and increases it to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. There are some more upgrades and improvements, but the content is the same.
“In the first war of stars “In this first-person shooter video game, players take on the role of Kyle Katarn, a defector from the Galactic Empire turned hired mercenary,” reads an official blurb for the game. “Katarn joins the Rebel Alliance’s covert operations division, tasked with infiltrating the Galactic Empire.”, where he discovers the secret Dark Trooper Project. The development of this powerful new line of Imperial battle droids and power-armored stormtroopers will strengthen the Empire’s hold on the galaxy, unless Katarn and the Rebel Alliance intervene.
