The first accounts created on Steam, Valve’s platform, are turning 20 years old, and the company decided to mark the occasion by releasing a special badge. You can see it below.
Let us remember that Steam was born in September 2003. At first, the platform was released not as a store, but as a service for more efficient distribution of Valve game updates. It was only in 2005 that it began distributing games from third-party developers.
It’s worth remembering that digital distribution was new at the time, and video game fans, including those on the PC, relied entirely on games in physical format. However, Steam gradually became more important, not least because from the very beginning it offered game publishers a higher percentage of profits compared to store sales.
Now Steam is not only the largest digital store, but also a place where the community gathers, friendships are made and discoveries are shared.
