A pair stealth fighter jet F-35A successful landing on the highway for the first time. This is a step that allows these advanced fighter jets to reduce the vulnerable time on land during a war.
As reported ReutersFriday (22/9/2023), two F-35A fighter jets belonging to the Air Force Norway it made landfall on the Tervo di highway section Finland central part on Thursday (21/9) afternoon local time.
The Norwegian military said the landing on the highway was part of a military exercise. The moment of landing on the highway was caught on camera, the video of which was released by the Norwegian military.
Immediately after landing on the highway, the Norwegian military said, the F-35A fighter jet refueled with the engine running, which is known as ‘hotpit refuelling’, before finally taking off again.
“Fighter jets are vulnerable on the ground, so being able to use small airfields — and now roads — increases our survivability in war,” Norwegian Air Force Commander Major General Rolf Folland said in a statement.
Finland, which joined NATO last April, shares a 1,300-kilometer border with Russia. Meanwhile, Norway is a founding member of the NATO alliance.
The F-35 stealth fighter jet is produced by the original company United States of America (AS), Lockheed Martin.
