The 90-year-old, who lived on Nordstrand in Oslo, is said to have been called by some people who wanted to buy books from her.

A short time later, two men appeared at her door. The men then tricked the woman so that she was robbed of a gold chain.

Operations manager in the Oslo police, Rune Hekkelstrand, tells VG that the men first tried to get the woman’s login details for, for example, her online bank, but that a gold chain was stolen instead.

– They are very professional fraudsters, who are persuasive and manipulative, and who then get their hands on something like this without violence or threats of force, says Hekkelstrand.

The police are warning after receiving several reports of incidents where fraudsters have proceeded in the same way.

– It seems as if the fraudsters have approached older women to ask if they want to buy books, says Hekkelstrand.

He adds that the police probably do not have an overview of all the similar incidents, and that it is therefore important that vulnerable people get in touch.

– If someone is called, the police want to know about it, because it is obvious that this is the preparation for something punishable in the form of fraud or the like, says Hekkelstrand, and adds that the police work with and compile different types of leads.
