“Stay Connected” is the motto of the diocesan altar boy day on June 17, 2023 in the youth education center Haus Altenberg. Children, adolescents and young adults between the ages of 9 and 30 who are active as acolytes in their parishes are invited. The festival offers an opportunity to get to know and network with like-minded people and to celebrate the unifying faith.
“Finally, after the Corona break, a huge altar boy event is taking place again,” says Robert Stiller, speaker in the youth pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Cologne and co-organizer of the meeting for the altar boy community. “Let’s see if we can crack the 2,000 mark again – as we did with the pilgrimage to Rome last year.” The registration deadline is May 19, 2023.
Colorful program around Haus Altenberg
The altar boy day begins at 9.30 a.m. with a preliminary program and the opening on the stage. Afterwards, a colorful program awaits the participants all about Haus Altenberg: Weightless with the bungee trampoline, “Get out of your comfort zone” with the improvisational theater or stage the Bible with “Minecraft” are just three of around 50 offers on this day.
The celebratory conclusion is the Holy Mass at 4 p.m. with diocesan youth pastor Tobias Schwaderlapp: “I am really looking forward to the day on which we want to say thank you to the altar boys for their service, which they do faithfully and with great joy in their communities!”
Socks campaign and competition for altar boy day
The altar boy working group in the Archdiocese of Cologne (MEK) has come up with a special campaign under the slogan “Get on your socks!” The acolytes can buy blue socks with the altar boy logo until June 2nd. Any group that orders socks before the altar boy day and sends in a creative photo can win an ice cream for the whole group on the altar boy day and guaranteed participation in one of the workshops.
