Status Quo bassist Alan Lancaster (72) passed away

Founder and bassist of British rock band Status Quo, Alan Lancaster, has died in Australia. His good friend and music journalist Craig Bennett writes this on Facebook on behalf of the family. He suffered from multiple sclerosis.

Status Quo is known for songs like Whatever You Want’, ‘In The Army Nowon Down Down’. Lancaster played with the band from 1967 to 1985. He left the group after disagreements with the other band members. In 2013, he returned to the stage with the original line-up for a series of reunion performances. In total he made fifteen albums with Status Quo, but he also had other musical projects such as The BombersonThe Party Boys.

“He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. His family was always the most important thing to him,” Lancaster’s wife said. Other Status Quo members wrote a response on their Facebook page. They are touched by the news and write that Lancaster played a large part in the success of the group.
