The number of day-care centers is increasing across the country in line with the needs of families – including in Bottrop. This is now shown by the statisticians from the State Office for Information and Technology (IT.NRW). According to this, as of March 1, 2021, there were 59 day-care centers for children in the city – four more than in the previous year. And that is by no means the end of the day-care center expansion in Bottrop.
So are in the registration portal Kita-Online currently a total of 61 day care centers are listed, with the Evangelische day care center in Grafenwald being listed with the addition: “Not opening at the start of the new day care center year 2022”.
More than 4,000 day-care center children are cared for in Bottrop
But first, back to the statistics from IT.NRW. According to this, as of March 1, 2021, a total of 4064 daycare children were being cared for in Bottrop, 381 more than in the previous year (plus 10.3 percent). There were a total of 897 employees (up 10.7 percent), including 668 specialist teachers (up 6.4 percent).

At the beginning of March 2021, the statisticians counted a total of 10,586 day-care centers for children nationwide. According to IT.NRW, that was 188 more than a year earlier and even 692 more than five years earlier.
The expansion of childcare offerings in Bottrop continues. For example, a day care center with four groups for a total of 75 children will be built on Südring by March 2023. The new day-care center on Klosterstrasse in der Boy (also with four groups for 75 children) is scheduled to open as early as this March. There are also plans for new day-care centers on Wortmannstraße in the Mitte Süd area and in Ebel. There, the facility is to be integrated into the church building of St. Matthias.
State Statistical Office queries Corona closing days for the first time
The numbers are collected as of March 1st. Accordingly, the data for 2022 is currently being requested. For the first time, the days of closure should also be used to record the extent to which parents are unable to take advantage of the care offer due to the pandemic, company holidays or further training measures. The State Statistical Office intends to present the first results at the end of August.
