Governing is no longer what it once was. No matter what you do, criticism hails from all sides. Nobody is happy, everyone knows everything better, but none of the whiners want to take part in the election to show how things could be done better.
The federal government will have enjoyed the praise that was showered on it this week for its housing package all the more. From Wifo to the IHS to the majority of the local media, a wave of enthusiasm that has become rare in this country was felt. Even “Der Standard”, for which the ÖVP has not done anything right since the party was founded, gave euphoric applause.
