Finally, a Fix: Couple Wins 12-Year Battle Against Root-Ridden Sidewalk
Great Kills, NY – After more than a decade of fighting, a local couple is celebrating a victory in their battle against a persistent problem: tree roots wreaking havoc on their property.
Judy Schneider, a resident of Great Kills, says her journey began 12 years ago when aggressive tree roots caused her sidewalk and driveway pavers to buckle and heave. Seeking solutions, she reached out to the city’s Parks Department for assistance. "Judy Schneider reached out to the Advance/SILive.com seeking help after she said the city Parks Department began to rip up the sidewalk in front of her house due to a tree’s roots lifting the walkway and driveway — and then left,"
Unfortunately, initial efforts from the city only served to further complicate the situation. Schneider recounts how the department began dismantling the sidewalk but then abruptly abandoned the project, leaving her with a partially demolished walkway and a continuing root problem.
Schneider described the situation as a long and exhausting ordeal. The damaged sidewalk presented both a safety hazard and an eyesore, detracting from the curb appeal of her home. After years of pleading for a resolution, Schneider finally saw a glimmer of hope.
