NEW YORK – A 31-year-old woman from Staten Island has been arrested on a string of charges of allegedly hitting an off-duty emergency medical technician (EMT) while trying to get into her own car.
The impact threw the victim onto the hood and windshield and left her severely injured on the pavement, authorities said Friday.
Nicole Marino was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, theft of a car, obstructing government administration, misreporting an accident and other crimes in an accident that destroyed a vehicle on North Railroad Avenue a day ago.
Police say Marino was behind the wheel of a 2006 Chevy Impala that struck the 29-year-old EMT on the North Railroad just off Locust Avenue on Thursday. The EMT landed on Marino’s car windshield and then on the hood before hitting the street. Cops say Marino hit another car after that, a parked, unoccupied Volvo, before stopping.
She was arrested on the spot and subsequently charged. Information on a lawyer was not immediately available to her.
The paramedic suffered significant trauma to his right leg, as well as facial trauma, police said.
He remained in critical condition at Staten Island University North Hospital early Friday, authorities said.
