Narva City Council Central faction, Narva Heaks and Narva Tulevik factions
On August 11, the Narva regional board of the Center Party met to discuss the situation, that another vote of no confidence is expected in the Narva City Council. After the local government elections in 2021, the Narva council has already undergone several changes in power lines, factions are leaving, new coalitions are being formed, insults are being made, reconciliations are being made, and new factions are being formed again. To the townspeople, it looks like a game of chairs, where one less chair is taken with each round, and when there are no more chairs, a new circle is formed and the game continues.
Times are hard in Estonia right now, and the upcoming changes in the country also affect the residents of Narva acutely – be it the increase in sales tax and income tax adopted by the Reform Party, Estonia 200 and the Social Democratic Party in the Riigikogu, or the introduction of car tax. The residents of our city are particularly acutely affected by the rising heating price from September 1, which almost doubles the price of room heating.
Under the leadership of the mayor of Narva, layoffs are constantly taking place in Narva city institutions, in addition, the mayor recommends that teachers who are fired from schools go to work in factories. Practically no new projects have been started in the city, practically all the objects that have been completed and are being completed, such as the renovation of the Narva Town Hall and the spectacular repair of roads, are the merit of the previous city administrations.
The only person who has won anything from the current power struggle in Narva is the mayor of Narva, Katri Raik, who, in order to increase his income, has appointed himself to the councils of two city-owned municipal companies and one state-owned foundation, earning about 1,500 euros in addition to his 4,000-euro mayor’s salary in one month.
In order to end the constant power struggles and to stabilize the work of the Narva city council, so that the work of the commissioners is aimed at the benefit of Narva and its residents, the Narva region of the Central Party makes the following proposal:
- All members of the Central Party of the Narva council and those who share the views of the Central Party join the Central Faction. In particular, it is aimed at the former mayor of Narva, Aleksei Jevgrafov, who was elected to the Riigikoku in the ranks of the Center Party in the spring elections and recently joined the Estonian Center Party.
- Leave Tatjana Stolfa as the chairman of the Narva council and choose people who unite different parties as vice-chairmen of the council in cooperation.
- Find a common Narva mayoral candidate who will implement the decisions of the Narva City Council, which are aimed at the benefit of the city’s residents.
By implementing the proposal, the work of the Narva City Council can be stabilized. Disagreements must be put aside and the focus must be on the issues that concern the city of Narva and its residents.
